Information about the tractor:

"We are talking about the WD 6 tractor, which was a relatively large wheeled tractor for its time (early 1950s) belonging to the McCormick-Deering, International Harvester, and Farmall family in its various forms, up to the Case of our day.

The interesting thing about this tractor is the engine, which was started with gasoline, and after the engine warmed up, it was switched to diesel.

In fact, the engine block is the same type as all the McCormicks, and the difference was only in the cylinder head. The right side of the head had spark plugs, a distributor (for ignition), a carburetor for gasoline, valves, etc., while the left side of the engine had injectors and a fuel pump. Of course, there were also two fuel tanks; the main and large one was for diesel, and the small one was for gasoline.

The big 'patent' was that the combustion chamber changed its size in terms of volume. When the engine ran on gasoline, the chamber volume was large, and when it ran on diesel, the volume was smaller. In practice, between the steering wheel and the gear lever, there are 2 levers (handles) about 30 cm in size. After the engine runs on gasoline and warms up, the levers are moved simultaneously – the upper one down and the lower one up. This action closes the gasoline valve, opens the diesel passage, and reduces the chamber size by raising the gasoline valve to the level of the chamber. During the day, when the engine is hot and the outside temperature is warm and reasonable, it was possible to start directly on diesel."
