Half-Track, Adanim

Yoram Doctori's contribution in memory of his wife Yael Miber Doctori, may her memory be blessed, who was murdered in a terror attack.

In January 1998, Yael and Yoram were driving late at night from Barkan to Beit Aryeh. "It was a dark night and I saw blinding lights of a vehicle," Yoram recounted. "I thought maybe it was people who needed help." He got out of the car to assist the passengers in the other vehicle, and then a large barrage of gunfire began from every direction. "Yael screamed my name and lost consciousness, I saw the blood spraying everywhere and that spurred me into action." Yoram got into the car and drove quickly to the gate of the nearest settlement, while trying to stop Yael's bleeding. A helicopter arrived there and evacuated her to the hospital.

"The understanding came in flashes, so it hadn't sunk in yet," Yoram said. "It only came when I had to call her parents and tell them that we had been in a terror attack, although then I didn't know to say it was a terror attack, I said 'shooting incident'." Five days later, he was faced with the most difficult decision of all, to disconnect Yael from the life support machines, "I don't wish any man in the world to be in this situation."
