Aviv Karniel is a grandson and third generation descendant of the founding family of the Zikhron Yaakov colony from the First Aliyah. His grandfather, Mordechai Karniel, and his wife, Leah, immigrated from Romania in 1882 together with seventy other families and settled on the arid hillsides of Mount Carmel. There they established the beautiful agricultural colony of Zikhron Yaakov, which was supported in its early years by Baron Rothschild until it reached economic stability.

The Karniel family, from generation to generation and to this day, has been engaged in agriculture and contributed greatly - through the efforts of the family patriarch Yehuda (of blessed memory), his sons Aviv, Mordechai, and Shmuel (of blessed memory), and their descendants - to the strengthening of agriculture in Zikhron Yaakov on both the local and national levels. Aviv, the youngest son of Yehuda (of blessed memory), has two sons who continue the family’s agricultural tradition.

Upon his release from regular army service in 1955, Aviv received a new Bristol tractor from his father Yehuda, and he used it throughout the 1950s and 1960s to develop and strengthen his farm.

The tractor accumulated about 4,000 working hours and was notable for its high reliability throughout its years of operation in plowing the family vineyards. It should also be mentioned that nearly all those thousands of hours of work were performed by Aviv himself, with some additional plowing hours carried out by his eldest son, Or, during his youth.
